What does your better-than-average male professional tennis player want from his on-site player lounge? Comfy sofas, a selection of the finest British newspapers (ie. The Times), a steady supply of grapes (preferably served by a buxom wench) televisions showing round the clock editions of SportsCenter? The latter would obviously suit the Bryan twins and Andy Roddick especially when they're stranded in Europe.

Well, to discover what makes the perfect retreat for tennis players at the best events, the good people of Haworth - motto "Change By Design" - chose the most appropriate way to find out and asked the stars themselves. A survey was conducted at last year's Masters Cup here, the intriguing results of which were published over the weekend.

Here is a sample of the players' quotes (identities are hidden to protect the guilty):

1) Space and good furniture is key.

2) Friendly people at a desk to help players with any questions they may have.

3) At numerous tournaments including all four grand slams, the lounges and restaurants are way too small for the capacity of the players, coaches and families. For example this year at the Australian Open I had to eat my lunch in the locker room numerous times because the restaurant and player lounge was completely full. In the meantime the VIP restaurant was HUGE with more than 500 seats. My feeling is that every year lounges and restaurants are getting smaller and smaller because tournaments obviously don't care about the players.

4) Peace.

(In the pursuit of fairness, The Net Post should point out here that the player facilities at Melbourne Park next January will be greatly improved and increased, with more space, more privacy and improved selection and quality of food provided. We have the assurance of Tennis Australia on that).

5) In general a place where one can relax and get away from the crowd while still on site, instead of having to go to the hotel for that.

6) PlayStation 3 or a TV we can hook up our own to.

7) Good quality pasta, not like at the Australian Open - every day it was overcooked (sorry Tennis Australia).

8) Gym with weights not as important as a warm-up and cool down area.
